A Holistic HR Solution
Tony Boyle learned that the success of a business depends on the morale and motivation of its people, and that starts with refined and holistic employment and human resources (HR).
As a technology manager, Boyle was searching for this new frontier of HR information online, and when he couldn’t find it, he came up with a solution: becoming an innovator in the online HR training space.
“It’s really a full circle of helping people with not just the content, not just the advice, not just the training or the service, but a full holistic feedback system that supports retention and talent acquisition,” said Boyle. “It really helps you grow your business.”
Trailblazers in Human Resources
When London, Ontario-based HRdownloads was founded by Boyle in 2008, the site included documents and tools covering the employment lifecycle with an option to create branded content for companies. In 2009, a feature for phone calls with HR professionals was added, the first feature of its kind in Canada, pairing HR professionals with managers. From the pool of questions HRdownloads’ experts were answering on the phone, Boyle’s team then developed content for a blog and training courses—which now offer more than 150 courses for members.
“Rather than a self-serve approach which is, ‘Good luck, figure all these things out,’ we want to hold the client’s hand and walk them through the most relevant content possible,” said Boyle.
Bringing More Joy to the Workplace
Beyond the content on HRdownloads, Boyle hopes to instill a guiding workplace ethos: “Making companies a great place to work.”
“If you make every single day fun and people enjoy coming to work, they are going to do a great job for you. If you put more focus on strategic goals and bottom lines than you do on the people that get you there, I don’t think that’s a recipe for success,” said Boyle. “I can’t overstate the importance of adults having a chance to smile and laugh throughout their day.”
