Fairmont and AccorHotels Celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary in Style

Last year, AccorHotels welcomed Kevin Frid as the new COO for its North and Central America operations, a key leadership role that will help shape the future of this world-renowned hotel group. Frid looks forward to integrating Canada’s 100-year-old FRHI Hotels & Resorts, which includes the iconic Fairmont Hotels & Resorts brand, with AccorHotels.

Fairmont has partnered with Air Canada to offer a once in a lifetime experience called “Après in the Air”, which will take 58 guests on a private jet to enjoy customized experiences such as skiing and dog sledding, followed by luxury accommodation at some of Fairmont’s most prestigious properties across Canada. In addition, Fairmont will be honoring Montreal’s 375th anniversary with the grand reopening of Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, a Canadian landmark which recently underwent a $140 million renovation.

Château-style Canadian Architecture

In the late 19th century, companies such as the Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway were building glamorous hotels along the railway lines to serve their passengers. Now national landmarks—and operated by Fairmont—these iconic hotels became harbingers of château-style Canadian architecture. “Fairmont is an integral part of Canada’s history,” Frid commented.

The Savoy,The Plaza & Raffles Hotel

With the AccorHotels acquisition, Fairmont guests will become part of the wider clientele of well-respected hotel brands of the AccorHotels group, such as Sofitel and Novotel. The acquisition will bring some of FRHI Hotels and Resorts’ most renowned luxury hotels—including The Savoy in London, The Plaza in New York, and Raffles Hotel Singapore—to the AccorHotels collection of high-end destinations.

“The AccorHotels acquisition is an opportunity to offer a greater menu than before and to become the most comprehensive hospitality offering in the world for our guests,” Frid commented.

There are more than 75 Fairmont Hotels & Resorts worldwide, from the iconic Fairmont San Francisco that opened in 1907 (the original Fairmont hotel), to the upcoming openings of Fairmont hotels in Texas and Mexico.

In addition to its reputation for providing memorable vacations, Fairmont hotels excel in MICE tourism, providing venues for corporate Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events. “It is very rare to find luxury hotels with meeting facilities; Fairmont is a niche,” stated Frid.
